We Have An 18 Year Old!!!

A bit over a week ago, the Eldest One turned 18. EIGHTEEN!!!! I'm not quite sure when that happened, the last time I checked I swear she was 12. Anyway, she is now an adult, well, in the eyes of the law at least! She had a bit of a party this weekend just gone. We were somewhat nervous, considering the frequency of raucous parties from kids of that age that you see on the news lately, but we really needn't have worried. It was actually a comparatively quiet evening, and by 12:30am, all were gone home (well, except for the few that ended up sleeping in their cars on our front lawn! But hey, at least they weren't drink driving!).  So here are a few snaps from the birthday dinner and then a really really, really ridiculously cute video of Miss Penelope 'going to the shops to get a donkey'.



Trying to get a good photo of all five of them proves completely elusive, especially now Miss Penelope has learned a new 'smile'. Interesting to say the least.....














I love this photo, even though it's grainy. It's just all of us together, exactly as it should be. 



 We actually had such a good night. It was exactly what a family dinner out should be; full of good food, lots of noise and laughter (lots of laughter), crazy antics on everyone's behalf and definitely a memory to cherish. And now on to the waaaaay too cute video of Penelope Wonderwoman. Make sure you have your sound on, as you'll want to hear all of the conversation. (Sorry I'm kind of loud, but I was closer to the microphone than she was. It's worth it, trust me.)

Summer!

I've been seeing all these photos of snow everywhere courtesy of Facebook and Instagram. Can I say I'm kind of jealous at the moment? I always loved summer, the consistency of long, hot, sunny days just made me happy. But as I get older it starts to wear a bit thin when it's ridiculously hot.  According to the news, our summer hasn't been too hot (although it feels like it has been), and we've had a few milder days and colder nights in the last week or so which was awesome. We have had 15 days over 35 celcius (95F), in January, and I know there were a few in December and November too. But today is another one, and according to forecasts we are set for a record breaking heat wave over the next week. It's supposed to get up to 42c (110F), and not go below 39 celcius (103), for at least the next week possibly longer. Time To Say Goodbye

Hey Folks out there in internet land. This year is heading towards a close and it's got me thinking about what I had hoped to achieve this year and what I haven't gotten done.... In the last few years we've been thrown some pretty major shit and each year end I say "good riddance to this  year and here's to next year being better!" And the next year isn't better so it's getting kind of old.  Since 2012 (so five years), we've dealt with 3 miscarriages, an extremely difficult pregnancy that apparently should have resulted in two babies but didn't, a busted back, an ectopic pregnancy that nearly cost me my life and did cost my fertility. That was followed by pneumonia then a Femoral hernia. In addition to that, we've had to deal with me losing the ability to use my right leg and foot for over a year, more damage to my back, more hospital visits than I can count and stress beyond all belief. 2013, A Look Back

Today is a stay at home do nothing kind of day - I don't even plan on getting out of my pj's. And so as I sit here and reflect on the past year it occurs to me that it has been pretty full on! So I thought I'd do a post on what happened, month by month. So much can change in 12 months, it's interesting to look back and remember things.....I wonder what 2014 will bring? January ...saw as it always does, Miss Emily's birthday and mine as well as a big cross country move!
